Learn the fundamentals of electric vehicle technology and gain the skills you need to safely work on, diagnose, and maintain hybrid and electric vehicles.
Red River College Polytechnic is offering a tuition-free Introduction to Electric Vehicle Technology Micro-Credential Course as part of a training initiative to provide workers with new skills needed to support a clean economy. The course has been specifically designed to prepare technicians for safely working on, diagnosing and maintaining both hybrid and electric vehicles. This hands-on course covers the hazards, safe work procedures and specialized equipment used when working with the high voltages associated with hybrid and electric vehicles.
Beginning with terminology and safe work practices, the course covers both DC and AC electrical fundamentals, including electric motor motors, invertors, and battery management systems. The course provides a firm understanding of electrical, electronics, DVOM operation, battery and electrical safety and the basic principle of operation behind data communication. The strong electrical foundation required for technicians to safely and confidently maintain hybrid and electric vehicles. Both theory and practical instructional methods are used in this course.

The tuition-free Introduction to Electric Vehicle Technology micro-credential course is fully funded by Canadian Colleges for a Resilient Recovery (C2R2) and the Government of Canada. The course is offered in person at Notre Dame Campus on two different dates: September 18 – 29, 2023 or October 16 – 27, 2023. The course is part-time and online.
The course is open to Registered Apprentices or Red Seal Technicians in any of the following trades: Automotive Service Technician, Heavy Duty Mechanic, Agricultural Equipment Technician, Aircraft Maintenance Journeyperson, Marine and Outdoor Power Equipment Technician, Railway Car Technician, Diesel Engine Mechanic, Recreation Vehicle Service Technician, Collision Repair Technician, Truck and Transport Mechanic or Transport Trailer Technician.
