Manitoba homeowners can expect to receive a cheque in the mail soon that will reduce their school taxes by 50 per cent. Some homeowners in Winnipeg have already received their Manitoba School Tax Rebate.
The province is continuing to phase out education property taxes by implementing the School Tax Rebate, which was announced in the 2021 budget.
The rebate will apply to residential and farm properties, based on the school division special levy before the Education Property Tax Credit Advance. Owners of other properties, such as commercial and industrial, will receive a 10 per cent rebate of the total of both the school division special levy and the education support levy payable.

The rebate cheques will be sent out in the month before municipal taxes are due, which varies by municipality. For example, homeowners in Winnipeg and Brandon will receive their cheques in June, while those in Morden and Winkler will receive them in August.
The province says the rebate will enable property owners to keep more of their hard earned money and reduce the reliance on property taxes to fund education.
No application is required to receive the rebate. Property owners can use an online calculator on the province’s website to estimate how much they will receive1.
