🔥 Hot Weather’s Coming—Here’s Where to Cool Off in Winnipeg

Heads up, Winnipeg: it’s going to be really hot on Thursday and Friday. Thankfully, there are quite a few places around the city where folks can cool down and grab some water for free.

💧 Hydration Stations

There are nine hydration stations set up with free clean drinking water:

  • 469 Selkirk Ave. (The Bell Tower)
  • Stella & Main (near Mount Carmel Clinic)
  • Princess & Henry (by Siloam Mission)
  • Roslyn & Osborne
  • 369 Furby (close to Agape Table)
  • Maryland & Ellice (near Spence Neighbourhood Association)
  • 190 Disraeli (by N’Dinawemak)
  • 406 Edmonton (Central Park near Knox United Church)
  • 185 Young (Broadway Neighbourhood Centre)

🏫 Public Places to Cool Off

  • Libraries and leisure centres are open during regular hours and offer water and air conditioning.
  • City-run indoor pools and outdoor spray pads are great for families needing a break from the heat.
  • Some community centres are also acting as cooling spaces this summer.

🌙 24/7 Cooling & Drop-In Spaces

For anyone needing a safe place to stay cool overnight, these locations are open day and night with shelter, water, food, and support:

  • Velma’s House, 566 Bannatyne Avenue
  • West End 24/7, 430 Langside Street
  • St. Boniface Street Links, 311 Provencher Boulevard
  • N’Dinawemak, 190 Disraeli Freeway

☀️ Heat Safety Reminders

  • Drink water often—even if you don’t feel thirsty yet.
  • Avoid alcohol when it’s really hot.
  • Check on vulnerable neighbours or family—seniors, folks with health issues, etc.
  • Wear loose clothes, a hat, and stay in the shade when possible.
  • Never leave kids or pets alone in a car—even briefly.
  • If someone seems dizzy, confused, or unwell, call 911 right away.
  • Be careful not to overload electrical outlets with fans or portable ACs.
