Stephen King's The Long Walk Trailer Just Dropped — And People Have Thoughts

Fans of Stephen King have been buzzing ever since the trailer for The Long Walk dropped. Yep, that story — the one where 100 teenage boys are forced to walk nonstop or else — is finally coming to the big screen, and it looks like it’s not holding anything back.

So, what’s the vibe? Let’s just say it’s intense. Like, Hunger Games meets pure nightmare fuel kind of intense. Directed by Francis Lawrence (the same guy who gave the Hunger Games films their gritty punch), the trailer shows a dark, dystopian world where stopping to rest means death. Fun, right?

Critics have already started chiming in, and most of them seem pretty impressed. One even said the trailer “makes the movie look just like the book,” which is music to the ears of die-hard King fans. Sites like Bloody Disgusting didn’t shy away from pointing out how brutal this movie is going to be. In their words, it’s “not afraid to kill kids.” Yeah… this isn’t your feel-good summer flick.

But what really matters is what everyday folks are saying — and Reddit’s already lighting up. Some people are hyped that it stays true to the book’s bleak tone. Others were relieved to hear they dropped the walking speed from 4 mph to 3 mph, which was apparently Stephen King’s idea. He even admitted that 4 mph was “just too f***ing fast.” Fair.

As for the cast, people seem pretty pumped. Cooper Hoffman is taking on the lead role of Ray Garraty, and none other than Mark Hamill is playing The Major. That's right — Luke Skywalker himself as a cold, authoritarian figure. Wild.

All in all, the buzz is good. Like, actually good. Fans are cautiously optimistic, and most folks agree that the trailer hits all the right notes. Now we wait and see if the movie lives up to the hype when it comes out September 12, 2025.

If you haven’t seen the trailer yet, what are you waiting for?
