Garden City Cinemas Is Back! Here’s What to Expect

After more than a decade of waiting, Garden City Cinemas is finally reopening! Set to welcome moviegoers once again on February 21, 2025, this long-lost gem is making a big comeback with a fresh new look and a lineup of multicultural films that will bring back all the nostalgia.

A Look Back

For 40 years, Garden City Cinemas was a go-to spot for catching Bollywood hits, Hollywood blockbusters, and even movies from the Philippines. Tucked inside Garden City Shopping Centre, it was more than just a theatre—it was a gathering place. When it shut down in August 2010, a big part of the local entertainment scene disappeared with it.

But now, after all this time, it’s finally making a return.

The Big Comeback

The new owners, Albion Cinemas, have been hard at work revamping the space. After securing city permits in 2022, they went all in—renovating the seating, adding access ramps, and updating the kitchen and washrooms. But one thing hasn’t changed: the theatre will still focus on multicultural films, with a strong emphasis on Bollywood movies.

And here’s a bonus—there's special introductory price of just $2.99! A perfect excuse to check it out.

More Than Just a Theatre

This isn’t just about bringing back a business; it’s about bringing back a piece of the community. For many, Garden City Cinemas was a connection to home, a place to experience movies in different languages and cultures. Now, it has the chance to do that again. Local businesses are also looking forward to the extra foot traffic.

What’s in Store

Expect a mix of modern updates and classic moviegoing vibes. With better seating, improved facilities, and a film selection that celebrates different cultures, this is shaping up to be a must-visit spot for Winnipeg movie lovers. Whether you're into Bollywood, Hollywood, or international films, there’s going to be something worth watching.

The Bottom Line

The return of Garden City Cinemas is exciting news for Winnipeg. It’s been a long time coming, but the wait is finally over. If catching a movie here was part of your past, now’s the time to make it part of your future. So, grab some popcorn and get ready—movies are back at Garden City Cinemas!
