Yep, Uniqlo Is Also Coming to Polo Park 👀

A few months back, I shared the news that Uniqlo was officially coming to Winnipeg, with its first confirmed location at St. Vital Centre.

Since then, there’s been quiet curiosity floating around — especially whenever Polo Park comes up — about whether Uniqlo might be headed there too.

Now we finally have an answer: yes, Uniqlo is also coming to Polo Park.

The Not-So-Flashy (But Very Real) Confirmation

There’s no big press release yet, but the confirmation came the most Winnipeg way possible: a permit.

A new building permit on the City of Winnipeg permit page lists UNIQLO as the tenant and outlines interior renovation work at Polo Park. We’re talking new walls, doors, storefront windows, and all the mechanical and electrical work you’d expect for a major retail store.

It also notes the space is on the second floor, which lines up perfectly with what people have been speculating for months.

Where at Polo Park? Reddit Did Its Thing

According to folks in the Winnipeg Reddit (and honestly, Winnipeg Reddit is scary good at this), Uniqlo is expected to go into the old Sears space on the second floor, near the food court.

If you’ve ever walked through that area and thought, “Wow, this space is just sitting here waiting for something big,” …yeah. That tracks.

Quick Uniqlo 101 (If You’ve Never Shopped There)

If Uniqlo (a Japanese clothing brand), is new to you, here’s the short version:

  • Clean, simple clothing that actually lasts
  • Everyday basics you can wear to work, school, or just existing
  • Prices that feel reasonable (especially these days)

They’re especially popular for winter staples — HEATTECH layers, lightweight jackets, and stuff that works really well in Canadian weather. It’s the kind of store where you go in “just to look” and somehow leave with three things you didn’t know you needed.

And Yes… Grand Openings Usually Mean Free Stuff

This is the part that makes it extra relevant for Winnipeg for Free readers.

At past Uniqlo openings in other Canadian cities (Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal), they’ve done things like:

  • Free tote bags
  • Free gifts with purchase
  • Opening-week promos and limited items

Nothing has been officially announced yet for Winnipeg, but based on how Uniqlo usually does grand openings, free giveaways are very likely when these stores open.

Two Uniqlo Stores in Winnipeg? That’s Kind of Huge

Between St. Vital Centre and now Polo Park, Winnipeg is getting two Uniqlo locations, which honestly feels like a bit of a retail glow-up for the city.

There’s still no opening date, but permits like this usually mean things are moving along quietly behind the scenes. I’ll keep an eye on it — especially for opening dates and any freebie announcements — and share updates as soon as there’s more to know.

If you’ve been hoping Uniqlo would land at Polo Park… looks like your mall walks are about to get a little more dangerous for your wallet.
