Cross-Country Ski Trails and Toboggan Hill Open at Assiniboine Park

Winter enthusiasts can rejoice as Assiniboine Park has opened its cross-country ski trails and toboggan hill for the season. The park offers a variety of winter activities for visitors of all ages and skill levels, from skating on the Riley Family Duck Pond to enjoying a hot drink at the Cargo Bar.

Skiing in the Park

Assiniboine Park has approximately four kilometres of groomed cross-country ski trails on three designated loops. The trails are groomed for freestyle and classic skiing approximately twice a week, weather permitting. Trails are open from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm during the ski season.

The park’s ski trails are suitable for beginners and intermediate skiers, as they offer a mix of flat and gently rolling terrain. The trails also provide scenic views of the park’s natural beauty, including the Assiniboine Forest, the Leo Mol Sculpture Garden, and the English Garden.

Skiing in the park is free of charge, but visitors are asked to bring their own equipment and follow the ski trail etiquette. Ski equipment is available for rental. No walking, snowshoeing, cycling, or dogs are allowed on the groomed trails. Skiers are also advised to stay off the trails when conditions are too soft or when grooming is underway.

Other Winter Attractions

Assiniboine Park has more to offer than just skiing and tobogganing. Visitors can also enjoy skating on the Riley Family Duck Pond, which is open daily from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm. The duck pond has a skating shelter adjacent to it, where visitors can access washrooms and warm up. Hockey sticks and pucks are not permitted on the duck pond, and skate rentals are not available.

For those who want to relax and unwind after a day of winter fun, the Cargo Bar is a great option. The Cargo Bar is a pop-up patio located on the banks of the duck pond, built from a 20’ shipping container. The bar offers a variety of hot and cold beverages, including hot chocolate, coffee, cider, and a selection of local craft beers, wine, and specialty cocktails. The bar also has cozy fire pits on the licensed outdoor patio, where visitors can enjoy the view of the duck pond and the park.

The Cargo Bar is open on Fridays from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The bar is closed on Mondays to Thursdays.
