What's Open and Closed in Winnipeg on Victoria Day 2025

Heads up, Winnipeg! Victoria Day is just around the corner — Monday, May 19 — and it’s always a bit of a mix when it comes to what’s open and what’s not. If you’re planning to get errands done, go shopping, hit the trails, or just hang out with family, here’s a quick rundown I put together after checking a few reliable spots. Hopefully this helps you map out your long weekend!

🛍️ Shopping Malls & Big Stores

Most of the major malls are open but running on holiday hours:

  • CF Polo Park – 11 AM to 6 PM

  • St. Vital Centre – 11 AM to 6 PM

  • Kildonan Place – 11 AM to 6 PM

  • Outlet Collection Winnipeg – 11 AM to 6 PM

  • Grant Park Shopping Centre – Noon to 5 PM

  • Garden City – 11 AM to 6 PM

Liquor Marts are mostly open too (11 AM to 6 PM at most spots), but it’s worth double-checking your local one just in case.

🛒 Grocery Stores & Big Box Retailers

Costco Closed

Walmart: 7:00 AM – 10:00 PM
Real Canadian Superstore: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Safeway/Sobeys 7:00 AM – 10:00 PM
Manitoba Liquor Marts 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM (Most Locations)

Note: Store hours may vary by location. It's best to check with your local store for the most accurate information.

🚌 Transit & Getting Around

Winnipeg Transit will be running on a Sunday schedule, so expect fewer buses than usual. Plan ahead if you’ve got somewhere to be!

🗑️ Garbage & Recycling

Unlike some holidays, garbage, recycling, and yard waste will still be picked up as usual on Victoria Day. If Monday’s your day, no changes! You can always double-check using the city’s collection day tool.

Brady Road Landfill & 4R Depots:

  • Brady is open (5:30 AM – 8 PM for commercial, 8 AM – 8 PM for residential).

  • The Panet and Pacific 4R depots will be closed.

🏊 Recreation & Pools

A few indoor pools and fitness centres are open if you’re looking for a swim or a quick workout:

  • Pan Am Pool: 10 AM – 2 PM

  • Cindy Klassen Complex: 2 PM – 6 PM

  • Margaret Grant Pool: 1 PM – 5 PM

All other city pools and fitness centres are closed for the day.

Also, the city golf courses are open all weekend — weather permitting, of course.
