Hey everyone! Just wanted to share a quick heads-up on something I noticed while grabbing a Slurpee and a bag of Old Dutch chips at the Sev today. If you’re a Lotto Max regular, our Tuesday and Friday routine is getting a bit of a “Winnipeg-style” makeover starting April 14.

I’ve been digging into the “refresh” they’re doing this spring. Honestly? It’s a bit of a mix, so I figured I’d break it down for the community before we all head to the kiosk at Polo Park or the booth in Winnipeg Square.

The “Ouch” Part: It’s Going to Cost an Extra Buck

Starting mid-April, a play is moving from $5 to $6. I know, I know—with the price of groceries at Sobeys lately, nobody wants to hear that. Think of it this way: that extra loonie is basically the “Honey Dill Tax.” It’s the cost of a side of sauce or the toonie you’d usually save to upgrade your Slurpee to a larger size.

To make that extra dollar hurt a little less, they’re actually giving us more for our money. Instead of three lines of numbers, we’re now getting four lines.

They are also adding two more numbers to the pool—it’s moving from 1–50 to 1–52. Now, before you roll your eyes at the math getting harder, check this out: because we get that fourth line on every ticket, our overall odds of winning something actually improve from 1 in 7 down to 1 in 5.8. Beauty, eh?

And for the dreamers: the main jackpot cap is officially jumping to $90 million. That’s a new record—enough to buy a lifetime supply of Jeanne’s Cakes and still have enough left over to fix every pothole on Kenaston (well, maybe).

MAXPLUS and the $100K Wins

The Big Win for the “Regular” Person: MAXPLUS

Don’t worry, those $1 million Maxmillions aren't going anywhere! They’ll still show up once the jackpot hits $50 million. They’re adding $100,000 prizes on every single draw.

These scale with the jackpot! If the jackpot is $10 million, there are 10 prizes. If it hits that new $90 million max, there are 90 of them. It’s not a million bucks, but in a city like ours, $100k is serious “life-changing” money.

What does $100k look like in the ‘Peg?

If you hit one of those 90 prizes, you’re looking at:

  • A massive down payment on a house in Transcona or St. James.
  • A brand-new truck that can actually handle our winter ruts.
  • Enough money to host the most legendary Manitoba Social in history—we’re talking endless rye bread, cubes of Bothwell cheese, and more garlic coil than the North End can handle.

The Verdict?

It’s a bit of a bummer to pay more, but I’m kind of digging the idea of 90 different Winnipeggers potentially walking away with $100k instead of just one person in Ontario winning the whole pot.
