Working with the Land: Traditional Composting, May 4th, 2022, 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm CST
Join special guest Audrey Logan to learn about Indigenous and restorative approaches to composting, gardening, and food waste reduction. Audrey Logan is a Nehiyaw (Cree) /Métis traditional food grower and knowledge keeper currently living and sharing in the inner-city neighborhood of West Broadway in Winnipeg, Treaty 1 Territory. Audrey will be sharing her knowledge about ways to work with the land instead of fighting against it, using her experience with permaculture and regenerative gardening techniques.
Compost Bin Building Workshop, May 5th, 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm CST
Get ready for composting this spring by learning how to build your own compost bin from scratch. You will be surprised by how easy it is! Green Action Centre’s Master Composter Mick Manfield will demonstrate how to build two different types of wooden compost bins:
- Wood pallet compost bin
- Wood bin with a lid, and a door at the bottom using reclaimed cedar
We will use a combination of powerpoint slides and video clips of Mick building the bins to demonstrate this virtually. The webinar will also cover where you can source the wood, what tools to use, and other top compost bin tips! This will be followed by a Q&A with Mick to clear up any questions you may have about building a compost bin!
WasteEd – A Community Organic Waste Drop-off Event, May 7th, 2022, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm
Grant Park Shopping Centre parking lot – 1120 Grant Ave
You’re invited to participate in Compost Awareness Week with WastEd, a free community organic waste drop-off event hosted by Compost Winnipeg & Green Action Centre.
During the week of May 1st to 7th, experience the simplicity of composting firsthand at home. Not only can you divert all of your household organic waste, but we welcome you to take this opportunity to spring clean your fridge, freezer, cupboards, and pantry. Winnipeggers will get the chance to see just how much of their waste is comprised of compostable materials!
Register to bring your collected organic waste to our drop-off location at Grant Park where it will be weighed and taken by Compost Winnipeg to be composted! While you’re there, learn more about composting and chat with us about the many different ways to get started composting. Don’t miss out!
