February is a significant month when we commemorate the diverse achievements and invaluable contributions of the Black community in Canada and worldwide. Black history is Canadian history, and in Manitoba, we take pride in celebrating the role of Black experiences in shaping our nation.

Immerse yourself in the rich history and vibrant culture of Manitoba’s Black community during Black History Month! Throughout February 2024, come for a diverse range of events, speakers, performances, and educational opportunities

First Friday at the Manitoba Museum (Free)

February is Black History Month and the Manitoba Museum is celebrating with Black History Manitoba as we take over the First Friday in February will a fun filled evening of great food, live entertainment and lots of great vendor. We are showcasing Black-owned businesses and Black-led organizations with our supporters and friend at this 2nd annual event.

The Manitoba Museum is excited to partner with Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries to present our First Fridays programming! Join us on the First Friday of every month from 4 pm to 9 pm for free general admission to our three core attractions – the Museum Galleries, Planetarium, and Science Gallery. No ticket is required for First Friday programming unless otherwise specified.

Celebrate Black Professionals in Music during Black History Month at WAG–Qaumajuq!
BPM X WAG-Qaumajuq is returning on February 9 for a special event to celebrate Black History Month! This event will feature sets from three acclaimed Winnipeg-based artists: Kelly Bado, Tommyphyll, and DJ Zuki. The evening will be intimate and interactive, allowing the artists to express themselves through stripped-down, visceral performances that will address identity and community, and celebrate the African Diaspora.

There’ll be a mixer featuring delicious food courtesy of Pretty Baked throughout the night for Black music makers as well as local music companies, labels, venues, and festivals looking to make deeper connections with the Black music community in Manitoba. Meetups for artists and music entrepreneurs are core to BPM’s community-building focus, offering an opportunity to share ideas, professional needs and barriers, and make vital career connections.
