In a groundbreaking collaboration that promises to bring the Star Wars saga to new audiences, Disney/Lucasfilm has teamed up with the Dakota Ojibway Tribal Council and the University of Manitoba to produce an official Anishinaabemowin (Ojibwe) version of the iconic film, Star Wars: A New Hope. This significant endeavor aims to not only preserve and revitalize the endangered Ojibwe language but also introduce the timeless story of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and the Rebel Alliance to a wider Indigenous community.

A Cultural Bridge Across Language and Distance

The project will involve script translation, auditions for Anishinaabemowin voice actors, and sound recording, all taking place in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Sound mixing and post-production will be handled at Skywalker Sound in California, ensuring the highest quality audio production. This cross-border collaboration brings together diverse talents and expertise, fostering cultural exchange and showcasing the rich linguistic heritage of Indigenous communities.
