Dental Care Plan Expands This May

Millions More Canadians Can Soon Apply for the Dental Care Plan — Here’s What You Need to Know

Starting this May, the Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is expanding again, and this time it’s opening up to millions more Canadians aged 18 to 64. This is a huge deal for a lot of people who’ve been skipping dental checkups or putting off treatments just because it’s too expensive. (Been there.)

What’s New?

So far, over 3.4 million people have been approved for the Dental Care Plan, and around 1.7 million have already received dental care through the program. But now, the government is rolling it out to everyone else who qualifies in that 18–64 age range — starting in May 2025.

Here’s the rollout schedule:

  • 🦷 May 1: Ages 55 to 64
  • 🦷 May 15: Ages 18 to 34
  • 🦷 May 29: Ages 35 to 54

If that’s you — or someone in your family — mark those dates!

Who’s Eligible?

To qualify for the Dental Care Plan, you’ll need to meet all of these conditions:

  • You don’t have access to dental insurance (through work or privately).
  • You’ve filed your 2024 tax return (and your spouse’s/common-law partner’s, if that applies).
  • Your adjusted family net income is under $90,000.
  • You’re a Canadian resident for tax purposes.

If that checks out, you’ll be able to apply online, by phone, or at a Service Canada Centre near you.

Why This Matters

Honestly, I think this expansion is a game changer. Dental health is so tied to overall health, but for a lot of people, it’s just not accessible without insurance. And let’s be real — dental bills add up fast.

With this final rollout, up to 4.5 million more Canadians will be eligible for the Dental Care Plan. That’s on top of the seniors, kids, and folks with disabilities who already qualified.

If you want to learn more or check out the full eligibility details, head to Canada.ca/dental.

Feel free to pass this info along to anyone you think might need it. It's not often you see healthcare expanding in this way — and this could be a real lifeline for a lot of families.

Stay healthy and take care of those smiles! 😊
