Volunteer at Boo at the Zoo 2025 – A Fang-Tastic Halloween Opportunity 🎃👻

So here’s something fun for anyone who loves Halloween: Boo at the Zoo is back at Assiniboine Park Zoo this October, running from October 3 to 31, 2025, and they’re looking for volunteers. If you’ve ever thought, “hmm, I wouldn’t mind dressing up in a family-friendly costume and handing out some Halloween cheer,” this might be your sign.

A couple of things to note: you do need to be 18 or older, up for chatting with guests, and able to be on your feet outdoors. There’s a short interview, a Criminal Record Check (they cover it), and an online training before you start. Costumes are encouraged, which honestly makes the whole thing even better. Just keep it family-friendly so you don’t accidentally traumatize a toddler.

Volunteering here isn’t just about helping—it’s actually a really good time. Picture crisp fall evenings, the zoo all lit up in spooky colors, kids running around with wide eyes, and you being part of it all. Plus, you get some little “boo-nuses” (yep, they actually hand out rewards). The more shifts you do, the cooler the perks get—from a coaster to Zoo tickets, and even a Boo at the Zoo Yeti bottle if you’re really committed.

Oh, and did I mention snacks? Volunteers get coffee, hot chocolate, and treats during shifts. There’s free parking too, which is always nice at the zoo. Honestly, it sounds like a pretty fun way to soak up the season, meet new people, and do something a little different this October.

The hours aren’t bad either. It runs Wednesday through Sunday nights, wrapping up around 10 pm most nights (a little later on Fridays and Saturdays). They just ask for at least two shifts, which is doable even with a busy schedule. Shifts are a mix of roles: some folks help welcome guests at the gate, some walk around as ambassadors pointing people in the right direction, and some run craft tables where kids get their hands messy with Halloween fun. All the roles are outside, so be ready for Winnipeg fall weather—you know how it goes, hoodie one night, parka the next.

If this sounds like your kind of thing, here’s where to apply
