As the leader in building community health, the Reh-Fit Centre hosts a variety of free community events focused on heart health. Heart disease can affect anyone, taking preventative steps and educating yourself can have a positive impact on your health and well-being.

Matters of The Heart: Speaker Series

Thursday, February 13, 2025 | 1:30 – 3:00 pm

Join us for an informative presentation by cardiology residents as they explore essential topics related to heart health. This session will provide practical insights into monitoring your heart, understanding common heart conditions, and making heart-healthy lifestyle choices.

Presentations Include:

Usefulness of Heart Check Devices by Hongru Ren & Mike McGregor
Learn about modern heart-monitoring tools, including carotid ultrasound, vascular resistance measurements, cardiac rhythm check devices, and heart rate monitors. Discover how these technologies can help you better understand and manage your heart health.

What is Atrial Fibrillation (A.Fib)? by Vineet Goyal & Andres Griborio-Guzman 
Understand the basics of A.Fib, its impact on your body, and its connection to stroke risk using the CHADS2 scoring system. Explore available treatment options to manage this common heart condition.

How Does Alcohol Affect Your Heart Health? Sam Su & Magda Zawadka
Find out how alcohol consumption influences heart health, including its effects on blood pressure, heart rhythm, and overall cardiovascular risk.

Blood Pressure 101

In this session, you'll learn about blood pressure and how you can easily and accurately measure it at home. We will identify common mistakes, and also explore how physical activity impacts your readings. Whether you are looking to improve your fitness or simply take control of your well-being, this session will give you the tools to monitor your blood pressure with confidence! Diamond Athletic Medical Supplies Inc. will be onsite with blood pressure monitors available for demonstration and purchase.
