Experience the largest gathering of snakes in North America at the Narcisse Snake Dens, just an hour north of Winnipeg! Every spring, from late April to mid-May, tens of thousands of red-sided garter snakes emerge from their winter dens in a remarkable display of nature at the Narcees Snake Dens.
Awe-Inspiring Mating Rituals: Visitors to the Narcisse Snake Dens can witness the snakes erupt in a frenzy of activity as they bask in the sun, shed their winter skins, and engage in fascinating mating rituals. Observe the “mating balls,” where dozens of males writhe around a single female.
Educational Opportunities Abound: The Narcisse Snake Dens offer informative signs and interpretive programs that teach visitors about the red-sided garter snake, its role in the ecosystem, and the unique habitat of the dens.
