The Manitoba Museum is excited to partner with Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries to present our First Fridays programming! Join us on the First Friday of every month from 4 pm to 9 pm for free general admission to our three core attractions – the Museum Galleries, Planetarium, and Science Gallery. No ticket is required for First Friday programming unless otherwise specified.

How did 1920s Winnipeg look and sound? Join us in Alloway Hall to see images of Winnipeg’s Jazz history, sip a beverage, and enjoy one of two performances of the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra. Explore the 1920 cityscape or join us for a presentation on Winnipeg’s architecture in the Winnipeg Gallery.

The Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra is set to hit all the right notes with a performance based on the talents of Manitoba musicians and singers. Inspired by the history of the Winnipeg Jazz scene as portrayed by Owen Clark’s work Musical Ghosts, the tunes will have you dancing spontaneously to the tempo. Sip a beverage from our pop-up bar and imagine that you have been transported to the ambience of a 1920s speakeasy.

Winnipeg is host to some fascinating historic buildings. Join Gail Perry as she highlights different designs and styles from architect John D. Atchison and identifies key buildings that he designed from 1905-1922 in our city.
Discovery Room & Welcome Gallery, 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm
Featuring objects representing the 34 Southern Chiefs’ Organization member Nations, this exhibition is a celebration of the past, present, and future. The objects on display exemplify the beauty and resilience of the Anishinaabe and Dakota peoples and celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Southern Chiefs’ Organization.

Impacted by the Vietnam War, the Lao Secret War, and the Cambodian Genocide, millions of refugees from Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia were forced to flee their homelands and to seek safety in other countries. Hearts of Freedom: Stories of Southeast Asian Refugees tells the stories of these survivors, in their own words and through their unique perspectives, adding to the fabric of the Canadian history of immigration.
The Hearts of Freedom exhibition tour is funded in part by SSHRC and private funders.
