What’s Open & Closed on Remembrance Day (Tuesday, November 11, 2025) in Winnipeg

As Winnipeg pauses to honour the sacrifices of veterans and current service personnel, here’s an updated guide to what’s open, closed, or operating on reduced hours across key services, retail, and civic functions in the city — to help you plan your day without surprises.

✅ Civic & Municipal Services

  • All municipal and civic offices in the City of Winnipeg will be closed on Tuesday, November 11.
  • Regular recycling and garbage collection will not proceed on November 11.
  • Winnipeg Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule for the day.
  • Libraries: All branches of Winnipeg Public Library will be closed. Online services such as e-books and holds remain available.
  • Leisure & Recreation: Most indoor pools, fitness, and leisure centres will be closed. Some exceptions include:
    • Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex: open 2 pm – 6 pm
    • Margaret Grant Pool: open 1 pm – 5 pm
    • Pan Am Pool: open 1 pm – 5 pm

🛍️ Retail & Shopping Centres

  • CF Polo Park: Opens 1 pm – 9 pm
  • Grant Park Shopping Centre: Opens 1 pm – 6 pm
  • Kildonan Place: Opens 1 pm – 8 pm
  • Outlet Collection Winnipeg: Opens 1 pm – 9 pm
  • St. Vital Centre: Opens 1 pm – 9 pm

🏬 Major Stores & Grocery Chains

Most big-box retailers and grocery stores open in the afternoon following the morning observance.

  • Co-op Grocery (Red River Co-op Food Stores): Opens 1 pm
  • Costco Wholesale: 1 pm – 8:30 pm
  • Home Depot: 1 pm – 9 pm
  • IKEA: 1 pm – 8 pm
  • Lowe’s / RONA: 1 pm – 9 pm
  • Manitoba Liquor Marts: Opens 1 pm – regular closing hours
  • Save-On-Foods: Opens 1 pm – regular closing hours
  • Superstore (Real Canadian Superstore): 1 pm – 10 pm
  • Walmart Supercentre: 1 pm – 10 pm
  • Safeway / Sobeys: Generally open around 1 pm

🏛️ Museums & Attractions

  • Assiniboine Park Zoo: Open 1 pm – 4 pm
  • Canadian Museum for Human Rights: Open 1 pm – 5 pm
  • Manitoba Museum: Closed on November 11
  • Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada: Open 1 pm – 5 pm

📝 Tips for the Day

  • If you need to run errands, aim for after 1 pm, as many businesses open then.
  • Plan for fewer transit options — Winnipeg Transit runs on a Sunday schedule.
  • For any specific store, check online or call ahead, as hours may vary by location.
  • Be mindful that garbage and recycling services are paused for the day.
  • Take time at 11 am for the moment of silence in honour of the day’s significance.

🧭 Why This Matters

Remembrance Day in Manitoba is considered an optional holiday — not all employees automatically receive the day off. However, the City of Winnipeg observes it with full closures of civic offices and major service adjustments. The result is a hybrid holiday day where many services pause, while retail and attractions resume in the afternoon.
