Starting this September, there will be reduced speed limits in school zones with a maximum speed limit of 30 km/h in effect from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday to Friday from September 1st, 2021 to June 30th, 2022.
Please take care when driving around students. School zones are designated areas near schools that alert drivers to ensure the safety of children crossing the roadway. Always drive cautiously in and near school zones. Be watchful and prepared to stop suddenly. Learn more by watching this 60 Second Driver video.
Any drivers caught speeding in a school zone could be fined at least $200 and could move down two levels on the driver safety rating scale.
It is illegal to pass another moving vehicle in a school area within 15 minutes of either the opening or closing of classes or any time when children are on the school grounds or near the road.
