Looks like there’s a great opportunity coming up for Manitoba youth aged 15 to 30 who want to get into the skilled trades. UBC Next Gen is running two free training and paid work experience programs this fall, and it could be a big step for anyone looking to start a career.

Intake 1: August 25 – September 19, 2025
Intake 2: September 29 – October 24, 2025

It’s an 8-week program split into:

  • Paid In-Class Training (4 weeks)
    • Hands-on introduction to essential trade skills
    • Workplace safety certifications
    • Job readiness workshops
    • Personal development focused on building confidence and career skills
    • Training allowance: Provincial minimum wage × 30 hrs/week
  • Paid Work Experience (4 weeks)
    • Real-world job experience with an employer in the skilled trades
    • Mentorship from people already in the industry
    • Valuable job connections that can help open doors
    • Pay: $25/hr × 40 hrs/week
    • Participants keep a tool kit (safety boots, long-sleeve shirts, and trade tools)

Applications go through the national database. If selected, someone will be in touch.
