Boo at the Zoo volunteers are essential! Volunteers help visitors enjoy a magical experience, from handing out candy to leading games. Sign up for 2+ shifts to receive a Boo at the Zoo souvenir, gift, tickets, backpack, and/or membership.

Boo at the Zoo is a family-friendly event that takes place from October 6 to 29. Volunteers are essential members of the event team and help visitors enjoy a magical experience. The event is held on Tuesdays to Sundays, with varying shift lengths and start and end times depending on the role.

To volunteer, you must be 18 years of age or older, commit to at least two shifts throughout Boo at the Zoo, and be able to spend extended periods of time outdoors in all kinds of weather. You must also be able to move around easily outdoors either on foot or with the use of mobility aids, wear family-friendly Halloween costumes, be comfortable interacting with visitors of all ages, follow direction from staff and lead volunteers, and complete a short online training module.

The following positions are suitable for all volunteers: Visitor Services Concierge, Event Ambassadors, Access Control Ambassadors, and Games Hosts. All positions require volunteers to spend time outdoors and have great communication skills. The event team will make an effort to assign tasks you prefer. However, a certain degree of flexibility is required.

Volunteer schedules are subject to change. Position descriptions and a list of tasks will be provided upon receipt of application. The opportunity to sign up for shifts will be provided upon completion of the online training module.

Volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of two shifts. All shifts are approximately 5 hours long (with breaks). For every shift, you will receive coffee, hot chocolate, water, and prepackaged snacks. At your first shift, you will receive a Boo at the Zoo branded souvenir. After 2 shifts, you will receive a surprise Boo at the Zoo gift. After 5 shifts, you will receive six (6) adult Zoo tickets. After 10 shifts, you will receive a special recognition.
