How to Become a Lifeguard for Free in Winnipeg This Summer

Are you looking for a rewarding and fun job that involves swimming, teaching and saving lives? Do you want to get certified as a lifeguard without paying any fees? If you answered yes to both questions, then you might be interested in the City of Winnipeg’s free lifeguard training program.

The free lifeguard training program is a 16-week course that will teach you everything you need to know to become an Instructor Guard with the City of Winnipeg. An Instructor Guard is a lifeguard who can also teach swimming lessons to children and adults.

The program is designed to address the current national shortage of both part-time and full-time lifeguards, which has been worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic. By offering free training and certification, the City of Winnipeg hopes to attract more people to join its aquatic staff and provide more swimming opportunities for the public.

  • Be available to attend all six courses required for certification
  • Be willing to apply for an Instructor Guard position with the City of Winnipeg upon completion of the program
