Warehouse One Closing Stores Across Canada — What Shoppers Need to Know

I don’t know about you, but I’ve definitely had those random mall trips where I’d wander into Warehouse One “just for a minute”… and somehow leave with jeans or a hoodie I didn’t plan on buying.

So seeing this news over the past couple of days (May 7–8) feels a bit strange.

It looks like Warehouse One is going into creditor protection and planning to close stores across Canada. And it’s not just talk—liquidation sales have already started in some places, which usually means things are moving pretty quickly.

What’s Happening Right Now

From what’s been shared, they’re basically winding things down and clearing out inventory.

If you stop by a store right now, you’ll probably notice sales already happening. And if you’ve ever been to one of these before, you know how it goes… you tell yourself you’ll come back later for a better deal, and then everything you wanted is gone.

A Few Things Worth Knowing

  • Gift cards, returns, exchanges—all that is only being accepted until May 13, 2026
  • After that, it’s final sale on everything
  • Full closures are expected shortly after

So yeah… if you’ve got a gift card sitting somewhere (I swear everyone has one tucked away), now’s probably the time to dig it out.

Why This Is Happening

It’s kind of the same story we keep hearing lately.

More people shopping online, fewer people hanging around malls, costs going up… it’s tough for a lot of stores right now. Even ones that have been around forever. Warehouse One started back in the late ‘70s, which is honestly impressive—but retail has changed a lot since then.

Hits Close to Home in Winnipeg

This one feels a little more personal here in Winnipeg since that’s where it all started.

For me, it’s one of those stores that’s just always been part of the mall experience. Like—you might not go there every time, but it’s always there when you need something simple. Jeans, a hoodie, a last-minute outfit.

Recent reports identified Manitoba locations including stores at:

  • Kildonan Place
  • Garden City Shopping Centre
  • Outlet Collection Winnipeg
  • St. Vital Centre

Chances are, you’ve been to at least one of these at some point—maybe more times than you can count.
