Terry Fox Day, observed on the first Monday in August, has been officially recognized in Manitoba since 2015 — even though it’s not a statutory provincial holiday. Here’s an updated guide to what’s open and closed across Winnipeg for August 4, 2025.

🏛 Government, Mail & Civic Services

  • City, provincial, and federal offices will be closed.
  • Canada Post will not deliver mail, and post offices are closed, though some in‑store counters inside retail stores might be open.

🚍 Transit & Waste Collection

  • Winnipeg Transit will run on a Sunday schedule.
  • Garbage and recycling pickup will take place as usual for Monday routes.

🚮 Landfill & Depot Hours

  • Brady Road Landfill: 5:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
  • Brady 4R depot: 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
  • Pacific and Panet depots: Closed.

📚 Libraries, Pools & Recreation

  • Winnipeg Public Library branches are closed on Sunday and Monday, though online services remain available.
  • Outdoor pools, wading pools, and spray pads are open (weather permitting). All indoor pools, arenas, and leisure centres are closed.
  • Animal Services Agency is closed, but pet licensing can still be renewed online.

🛒 Grocery & Big‑Box Stores

  • Costco: 9:00 a.m. – 8:30 p.m.
  • Walmart: Around 6:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.
  • Superstore: Around 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • Sobeys & Safeway: Most locations 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.

Most Liquor Marts are open 11 a.m.–6 p.m., except True North Square, which will be closed.
