Protect Your Ride: All About Winnipeg’s New Bike Registration System with 529 Garage

Winnipeg cyclists, rejoice! The city has partnered with 529 Garage, a global cloud-based bike registration system, to offer a more robust and secure way to protect your two-wheeled companion.

Peace of Mind with Registration

Imagine cruising down Winnipeg’s scenic paths on your trusty steed, only to find it missing later. The city’s new bike registration system with 529 Garage can ease that worry. By registering your bike, you’ll be notified if it’s ever recovered by Winnipeg authorities. No more wondering about the fate of your beloved cycle – a simple registration could lead to a joyous reunion.

Expand Your Reach: A Global Network

This new system goes beyond city limits. 529 Garage boasts a global network, meaning jurisdictions worldwide can access registered bike information. So, whether your bike takes an unexpected journey across town or across the globe, you’ll be alerted if it’s found.

Registering Your Bike with 529 Garage

The registration process is quick and easy! Use the website or download the app. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Download the App: The free and user-friendly 529 Garage app is available for both iOS and Android devices.
  2. Provide Bike Details: Enter your bike’s unique identifiers like serial number, color, and any distinguishing marks or engravings.
  3. Visual Identification: Upload up to three clear photos of your bike for easy visual verification.
  4. Serial Number Savvy: Finding your bike’s serial number can be tricky. Look for an imprinted code directly on the frame (not a sticker). Note it down precisely as displayed – numbers starting with “TH” are typically stock numbers, not serials.

What to Do if Your Bike Gets Stolen

Time is of the essence in a bike theft situation. Here’s how to report a stolen bike in Winnipeg:

  • Contact the Winnipeg Police: Call 204-986-6222 to report the theft immediately.
  • Online Reporting: Utilize the Winnipeg Police online reporting system for added convenience.
  • Visit a Police Service Centre: Provide your bike’s details and any unique markings to aid in identification.

Existing Registrations: A Smooth Transition

If you’ve already registered your bike with the City, fret not! Your information will be stored on file until May 1, 2026. However, considering the global reach of 529 Garage, switching to the new system is highly recommended for enhanced protection.

Join the Movement: Register Today!

By registering your bike with the City of Winnipeg’s new 529 Garage system, you’re contributing to a safer and more connected cycling community. Download the app, register your bike, and join the global network of responsible cyclists. Remember, a registered bike is a protected bike! Let’s keep Winnipeg’s cycling scene vibrant and secure, one registered bike at a time.
