However, the Millennium Library will not be open on Sundays year-round, and all libraries will remain closed on Sundays during the summer months. The city says this is due to the lower demand and the need to balance the budget.

More Library Materials and Programs

Another benefit of the increased funding is the enhancement of the library’s collections and programs. The budget allocates an extra $465,500 for books and other materials, which will allow the library to update and diversify its offerings. A New Library in the Northwest

Last but not least, the budget includes $4.7 million for the construction of a new library in the northwest of the city, which is expected to open in September 2025. The new library will serve the growing population in that area, which currently lacks a nearby branch. The city says the new library will be leased, rather than owned, to save costs and increase flexibility.

The new library will offer the same services and programs as the other branches, as well as some unique features that will reflect the needs and preferences of the community. The city will consult with the public and stakeholders to determine the location, design, and name of the new library.
