⚠️ Travelling Fraud & Theft Ring Hits Winnipeg

The Winnipeg Police Service has issued a warning about a travelling fraud and theft ring targeting residents across the city. These scammers are using distraction techniques to steal valuables in broad daylight and busy public areas.

🕵️ Tactics Used

  • Approaching people at gas stations, parking lots, malls, or banks
  • Starting with friendly requests (directions, gas money, etc.)
  • Offering fake gold jewellery or knockoff “iPhones” in return
  • A second scammer may quietly steal jewellery or valuables during the distraction

🚗 Key Patterns

  • They work in groups, not alone
  • Often use vehicles with out-of-province licence plates
  • May have children with them to appear trustworthy
  • Operate in daylight and in busy, public areas
