We Are Winter: Community, Outdoors, and Winter Fun

Dates: January 9 – 11
Location: Assiniboine Park, surrounding the Riley Family Duck Pond

We Are Winter is a celebration of our community, the beauty of winter, and outdoor fun! Embrace the winter season and enjoy a variety of FREE activities for all ages including outdoor movies (Frozen 2 and Happy Feet), live music, guided snowshoe tours, skiing and skating lessons, and much more!

Daily Activities
Outdoor fun for all ages! Play cornhole and box hockey, create and decorate a snow penguin, skate on the Riley Family Duck Pond, ski groomed cross-country trails around the Park, then gather around cozy bonfires to warm up.

Food and Drinks

The Park Café take-out window will be open daily featuring a special offering of soups and stews.
Friday: 9:00 am – 8:00 pm | Saturday: 9:00 am – 8:00 pm | Sunday: 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

Cargo Bar will be open daily serving s'more kits, local craft beers, wine, and more.
Friday: 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm | Saturday: 11:00 am – 8:00 pm | Sunday: 11:00 am – 6:00 pm

Visit the red snack stand next to the duck pond shelter for hot chocolate and s'more kits.

Beavertails will be available daily during event hours.

Friday, January 9 | 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Opening night celebrations at Cargo Bar

  • Product sampling with FullGeek BrewLab
  • Live fiddle and accordion music with John Racer and Stephen Kiz (sets at 5:30 pm, 6:30 pm, 7:30 pm)
  • Performances from the Ivan Flett Memorial Dancers (6:00 pm, 7:00 pm)
  • Kids craft stations — create winter-themed crafts like twig snowflakes, winter mobiles and ornaments, and more inspired by Arctic animals!

Plus, enjoy daily activities including skating under twinkling lights, cozy bonfires, cornhole and box hockey, and more!

Saturday, January 10 | 11:00 am – 8:00 pm

Watch Frozen 2 on a large, outdoor screen with special guests Anna and Elsa!

Live Music with DJ GeNie | 11:00 am – 3:00 pm

Free Ice Cycle rentals from Spark Rentals
Try riding an ice bike on the Riley Family Duck Pond! Supplies are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Free skating and cross-country skiing lessons with Winnipeg Trails
Perfect for beginners or anyone needing a refresher. Reservation details coming soon!

Free skate and ski rentals from Winnipeg Trails
Available items: Skis (adult & children), sit skis, kick sleds, toboggans, hockey skates, figure skates, and snowshoes. Supplies limited, first-come, first-served.

Guided snowshoe tours
Tours at 1:45 pm and 2:30 pm (45 minutes each). Recommended for ages 5+, children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Wear warm boots/layers. Snowshoes provided or bring your own. Meet at the duck pond shelter 10 minutes early.

Free sauna rentals with The Backyard Barrel — no remaining availability.
