Canada’s meteorological department has issued a Winter Storm Watch for parts of southern Manitoba from Tuesday afternoon through to Thursday morning. A Colorado Low is poised to impact the region, bringing heavy snowfall and strong winds.
While the exact track of the low-pressure system is yet to be determined, the meteorological department has issued a warning to residents of southern and southeastern Manitoba to expect 15 to 25 cm of snow. The heaviest snowfall is expected to hit the southeastern corner of Manitoba, with the confidence level decreasing farther to the northwest. However, the latest guidance suggests that the low-pressure system may move on a more northerly track.

In addition to heavy snow, strong northerly winds are expected to produce poor visibilities in blowing snow. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations, and visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in some locations. Therefore, it is recommended to avoid travel if possible.
Winter storm watches are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together. Residents are advised to continue monitoring alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, one can send an email to [email protected] or tweet reports using #MBStorm.
