Celebrate Canadian Cinema on National Canadian Film Day (April 17th, 2024)!

Winnipeg film fans, rejoice! National Canadian Film Day is here, and there are exciting ways to celebrate our homegrown cinematic talent.

Catch Free Screenings in Winnipeg

All screenings are on April 17th except for Kayak to Klemtu

Documentary: Mr. Dressup: The Magic of Make-Believe (6 PM, Millennium Library) – Take a heartwarming trip down memory lane with this documentary about the beloved Canadian children’s entertainer, Mr. Dressup.

Drama: Ru (6 PM, La Maison des artistes visuels francophones, 101-219 Provencher Blvd) – Follow Tinh, a young Vietnamese girl, and her family as they flee their war-torn homeland and navigate the challenges of adapting to a new life in Quebec, Canada. This film explores themes of cultural identity, trauma, and resilience.

Coming-of-Age: Before I Change My Mind (7 PM, Dave Barber Cinematheque, 100 Arthur St) – In 1987, new student Robin struggles to fit in at school, forming an unexpected bond with the bully while grappling with questions about their own gender identity. This coming-of-age story explores the complexities of identity and belonging.
