Why Was Operation Red Nose at Risk in 2024?

Operation Red Nose faced challenges this year due to a critical need for $100,000 in funding by mid-November and the loss of its long-time partner, the Manta Swim Club, which had been vital for volunteer support. Although the program has partnered with the Winnipeg Kids Foundation to fill the gap, the new collaboration is still in its early stages, which added some uncertainty about its ability to operate this holiday season.

How Does Operation Red Nose Work?

If you’ve never used Operation Red Nose before, here’s a simple rundown of how it works:

  1. Call the Hotline: If you’re out and feel you’re unable to drive, call Operation Red Nose’s hotline for assistance. Volunteers will dispatch a team to your location.
  2. Get a Ride Home: A team of three volunteers will arrive—one to drive your car, one to follow in an escort vehicle, and one navigator. This way, you and your vehicle make it home safely.
  3. Donations Appreciated: While Operation Red Nose is a free service, donations are encouraged. All proceeds go towards local youth and community programs.

When is Operation Red Nose Available in Winnipeg?

Operation Red Nose will be operating on weekends throughout the holiday season in Winnipeg. The service typically begins in late November and runs through New Year’s Eve. The specific schedule and hotline number will be announced closer to launch
