The Forks River Trail And On-Land Trails Reopen

The iconic Forks’ River Trail is once again open for skaters, bringing joy to winter enthusiasts and locals alike. After a brief closure due to mild weather conditions, the trail has been meticulously prepared for safe skating.

The Trail’s Journey

The Forks’ River Trail initially welcomed skaters late in the season on January 25, but unfortunately, it had to close its gates just five days later. The culprit? Unseasonably warm temperatures that rendered the ice unsafe for use. However, the dedicated crew at The Forks has been hard at work, overcoming mushy conditions to clear the trail and ensure its readiness for eager skaters.

Cooler Temperatures Pave the Way

As winter reasserts its grip, cooler temperatures have prevailed, allowing the reopening of this beloved river skating trail. The Forks, a historic meeting place where the Red and Assiniboine Rivers converge, has always been a hub of activity. Now, with the trail back in action, locals and visitors can once again glide along the frozen waterways, taking in the picturesque surroundings.

Winnipeg 150 Winter Park On-Land Trails

But that’s not all! In addition to the river trail, officials have also reopened the Winnipeg 150 Winter Park on-land trails. These trails extend from the canopy rink to the CN stage rink, covering approximately one kilometer. Skaters can enjoy the crisp winter air while exploring these scenic pathways.

Safety First

Officials at The Forks emphasize safety. Skaters are urged to follow signs indicating where the river ice is safe. Daily updates on ice conditions can be found at TheForks.com/skate.

So, grab your skates, bundle up, and head to The Forks for a delightful winter experience. Whether you’re a seasoned skater or a first-timer, the reopened river trail promises memories to cherish.
