Glide under dazzling lights at The Forks’ Canopy Ice Rink! Celebrate Winnipeg’s 150th with free skating, festive tunes, & winter fun.

As the city prepares to mark its 150th anniversary in 2024, The Forks has opened its popular canopy ice rink for the season. The rink, located under a festive canopy of lights and music, is one of the first winter attractions to open at The Forks, along with the lighting installations throughout the Winnipeg 150 Winter Park (formally known as Arctic Glacier Winter Park).

The canopy ice rink is a winter staple for many Winnipeggers, who enjoy skating for free in the heart of the city. The rink is open daily weather permitting. The rink is also part of the Winnipeg 150 theme: Our shared stories. Our shared future. The theme reflects the city’s history, diversity, and potential for the future. The Forks, as a historic meeting place and a cultural hub, is a fitting venue to celebrate Winnipeg 150.

In addition to the canopy ice rink, The Forks is working on building more rinks and on-land trails, which are expected to open later this month or January. The Nestaweya River Trail presented by The Winnipeg Foundation, the world’s longest naturally frozen skating trail, will also open once the river conditions are safe.

The city of Winnipeg  is also offering a Winnipeg 150 Community Celebration Grant program, which provides funding for existing festivals, events, museums, and other organizations who incorporate the Winnipeg 150 theme into their 2024 programming. The grant application deadline is January 31, 2024.
