Manitoba Minimum Wage Set to Increase to $15.30 – A Boost for Workers
In August 2022, the provincial government of Manitoba announced that the minimum wage in the province will rise to $15.30 per hour starting October 1st. This increase is aimed at helping low-income earners cope with the rising cost of living. The current minimum wage in Manitoba is $13.50 per hour.
The government has been gradually increasing the minimum wage as part of its inflation-fighting measures. On April 1st, 2023 the minimum wage rose to to $14.15 per hour, and then increase to $15.30 per hour on October 1st. These adjustments are made annually to keep up with inflation and ensure that workers are paid a fair wage.

Manitoba will now be among the top three provinces (excluding territories) in terms of minimum wage. The increase is expected to benefit many low-income workers in the province, although some argue that it still falls short of a living wage.
To support small businesses during this transition, the government has implemented a temporary subsidy. This subsidy provides businesses with up to 50 cents an hour for each worker earning minimum wage, up to a maximum of 20 workers.
The increase in minimum wage is seen as a positive step towards improving the financial well-being of low-income earners in Manitoba. However, there are ongoing discussions about what constitutes a living wage and whether further increases are necessary to ensure that workers can meet their basic needs.
