Canada Learning Bond: $2,000 free government grant for your child’s education
The Canada Learning Bond (CLB) is a government initiative aimed at helping low-income families save money for their child’s post-secondary education. It is a grant provided by the Canadian government to encourage early savings for higher education expenses. The CLB is available to eligible children from low-income families born in 2004 or later.
The CLB provides an initial payment of $500 for the first year the child is eligible, plus $100 for each additional year of eligibility, up to age 15, for a maximum of $2,000. The money is deposited directly into a Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP). Personal contributions are not required to receive the CLB. Additionally, Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) will pay $25 into the RESP to cover the cost of opening an account.

To be eligible for the CLB, children must be from low-income families and born in 2004 or later. Children who are in the care of a public primary caregiver receiving a special allowance under the Children’s Special Allowance Act are also entitled to the CLB. Youth who meet the minimum age requirement to open an RESP in their province of residence can be their own subscriber and request the CLB for themselves. The beneficiary must be under the age of 21 at the time of application.
To apply for the CLB or learn more about it, you can call 1-800-O-CANADA (1-800-622-6232) or you can contact SEED Inc. by using the poster information below.
