The Teddy Bears’ Picnic, a beloved community celebration organized by the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba, is set to return to Assiniboine Park on Sunday, September 8, 2024. This event has a rich history in Winnipeg, spanning over 35 years. After a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic and high-volume pediatric RSV seasons, the Teddy Bears’ Picnic is making a comeback. The goal of this event is to provide families with a fun day while also giving children a developmentally appropriate understanding of what they may experience in a hospital or research environment, helping them feel more comfortable in healthcare settings.

The Teddy Bears’ Picnic will feature activity tents that offer various engaging experiences for children and their teddy bears. One of these tents is the Dr. Goodbear Clinic, where kids’ teddy bears will be triaged and undergo a variety of medical tests and treatments such as MRIs, X-rays, and casting. Another exciting tent is the “I Want to be a Scientist” tent, which encourages imagination through fun science-based activities and showcases how these activities can be used in medical settings.

To make this event possible, the Children’s Hospital Foundation is seeking community sponsors who can provide support and help create the best experience for families. The Teddy Bears’ Picnic has welcomed over 1 million children and their bears throughout its history. It relies on sponsors to support all aspects of the event and involves hundreds of volunteers, including frontline healthcare providers and health researchers who operate the Dr. Goodbear Clinic and the “I Want to be a Scientist” tents.
