What’s Closed on Victoria Day in Winnipeg

Victoria Day falls on Monday, May 18, 2026, and several government offices and city services across Winnipeg will be closed for the statutory holiday.

Closed services include:

  • Canada Post mail delivery
  • Civic offices
  • Federal offices
  • Provincial offices
  • Winnipeg Public Library branches
  • Animal Services Agency

Canada Post outlets located inside private retail businesses may still operate depending on store hours.

Brookside, Transcona, and St. Vital cemeteries will remain open to visitors from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM, although administrative offices will be closed.

Costco locations in Winnipeg are expected to be closed on Victoria Day.

Some city recreation facilities will offer limited services, including:

  • Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex — 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM
  • Margaret Grant Pool — 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM
  • Pan Am Pool — 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM

Shopping, Grocery Stores, and Attractions Open

Several Winnipeg malls and retailers are expected to remain open on Victoria Day with reduced holiday hours.

  • CF Polo Park — 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM
  • Grant Park Shopping Centre — 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM
  • Kildonan Place — 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM
  • Outlet Collection Winnipeg — 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM
  • St. Vital Centre — 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Many grocery stores are also expected to remain open, although some locations may operate on modified schedules.

  • Real Canadian Superstore — 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM
  • Safeway — Many locations open 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM
  • Sobeys — Most locations open 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM or 11:00 PM
  • Walmart — 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM

Popular Winnipeg attractions staying open during the holiday weekend include:

  • Assiniboine Park Zoo — 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
  • FortWhyte Alive — Regular hours
  • Manitoba Children’s Museum — 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM
  • Manitoba Museum — 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM
  • Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada — 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM
  • The Leaf — 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM
  • Winnipeg Art Gallery-Qaumajuq — 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM

The Canadian Museum for Human Rights will be closed.

Most Manitoba Liquor Marts in Winnipeg are expected to operate from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM, except for the True North Square location, which will be closed.

Transit, Garbage Collection, and Outdoor Recreation

Winnipeg Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule on Monday, May 18. Riders are encouraged to check schedules before traveling.

Garbage, recycling, and yard waste pickup will continue as normally scheduled for residents with Monday collection days.

Residents planning spring cleanup should note that only one residential 4R depot will be open on Victoria Day.

4R Winnipeg Depots and Brady Road Landfill

  • Brady 4R Winnipeg Depot — Open 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM
  • Brady Road Resource Management Facility — Open 5:30 AM to 8:00 PM
  • Pacific 4R Winnipeg Depot — Closed
  • Panet 4R Winnipeg Depot — Closed

City-operated golf courses will remain open throughout the Victoria Day long weekend, weather permitting. Most operate from sunrise to sunset.

  • Canoe Club Golf Course — 50 Dunkirk Dr
  • Crescent Drive Golf Course — 781 Crescent Dr
  • Kildonan Park Golf Course — 2021 Main St
  • Windsor Park Golf Course — 10 Des Meurons St

Victoria Day weekend is considered the unofficial start of summer in Winnipeg, with many residents enjoying shopping, parks, outdoor attractions, festivals, and seasonal activities across the city.
