What’s Closed in Winnipeg on Labour Day (September 1, 2025) — And What’s Still Open

Labour Day lands on Monday, September 1, 2025, and plenty of people are already planning how to spend the long weekend. To make it easier, here’s a quick guide to what’s closed in Winnipeg on Labour Day — and what’s staying open if you’re looking for things to do or places to shop.

Government & Public Services

  • Civic, provincial, and federal offices: Closed for the holiday.
  • Canada Post / mail delivery: No delivery, and counters won’t be open (though some inside businesses might be if the store itself is open).

Recycling, Garbage & Depots

  • Regular pickup: Garbage, recycling, and yard waste as usual.
  • Brady Road Landfill (commercial): Open 5:30 a.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Brady 4R Depot: Open 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Pacific and Panet 4R Depots: Closed.

Transit

Winnipeg Transit buses will run on a Sunday schedule. The fall schedule starts August 31.

Libraries & Leisure Centres

  • Winnipeg Public Libraries: Closed Aug 31 and Sept 1. Online services available.
  • Indoor pools & fitness/leisure centres: Closed.

Outdoor Pools & Parks

  • Outdoor pools, spray pads: Open (weather permitting).
  • Wading pools: A few open Sept 1 — Central Park, Dakota Park, McKittrick Park, and St. John’s Park.

Shopping Malls

Hours are shorter but malls are open:

  • Outlet Collection, CF Polo Park, St. Vital, Kildonan Place, Garden City: 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Grant Park: 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Grocery Stores & Retail

Labour Day Store Hours – Winnipeg (Sept 1, 2025)

  • Co-Op stores: 8 a.m. – 9 p.m.
  • Costco: Closed
  • Home Depot: 7 a.m. – 9 p.m.
  • IKEA: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Manitoba Liquor Marts: 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Rona / Lowe’s: 7 a.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Safeway/Sobeys: 7 a.m. – 9 p.m.
  • Walmart, Superstore, Save-on-Foods: 7 a.m. – 10 p.m.

Pharmacies

Shoppers Drug Mart: 8 a.m. – 10 p.m.

Cemeteries

  • Brookside, Transcona, St. Vital cemeteries: Grounds open 8 a.m. – 9 p.m. (Brookside office closed).

Golf Courses

Canoe Club, Crescent Drive, Kildonan Park, Windsor Park: Open (weather permitting).

Museums, Parks & Attractions

  • Canadian Museum for Human Rights: Closed.
  • Manitoba Children’s Museum: 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
  • Manitoba Museum: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Royal Aviation Museum: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Winnipeg Art Gallery–Qaumajuq: 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Assiniboine Park Zoo / The Leaf: Regular hours.
  • FortWhyte Alive: Open as usual.

A Few Holiday Tips

  • Need to shop? Big stores like Walmart and Superstore are open, but Costco is closed.
  • Pharmacy runs: Shoppers is open all day.
  • Outdoor time: Pools, spray pads, and golf courses are great if the weather holds.
  • Indoor fun: Museums like the Manitoba Museum or Children’s Museum are open.
