The Transcona Optimist Club puts the event on each year. \nOptimist Members along with Vickar Chevrolet spend days prepping\, mapping and decorating Santa’s sleigh for when he arrives. \nThe article continues below \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\nA lot of people remember way back when they were kids that the Santa sleigh would go up and down the streets of Transcona.” Now that our amazing community has grown so much\, our members work hard mapping a route every year. Repeatedly doing dry runs to reach across Transcona and mapping a route to hit as many streets they can in one evening. It is impossible for Santa’s sleigh to do all areas. They change the route year to year so others areas experience Santa’s visit! \nWe are on Facebook to give everyone a heads up where he will be\, so that you may get out to meet him\, he moves fast so follow the map route that will be posted on our page\, to see when he visits your area. \nWeather\, sleigh issues and time are just a few challenges to this event…. so be patient\, we will do our best. \nWe hope we add to this magical time of the year. Fans are encouraged to arrive as early as 4:30 p.m. CT with the ceremony beginning at 5:15 p.m. CT. The ceremony will last approximately 30 minutes and is open to all fans with or without tickets to that night's game. \nThe article continues below \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\nThe event will include an address from Hawerchuk's wife Crystal\, the NHL's Sr. Vice President of Hockey Operations and former Winnipeg Jet Kris King\, former Canada Cup teammate and fellow Hockey Hall of Fame member Paul Coffey\, former Jets teammate Dave Ellett\, former Jets teammate and current Jets Associate Coach Scott Arniel\, and Jets forward Mark Scheifele\, to whom Hawerchuk was an influential coach and mentor. The ceremony will also be attended by many of Hawerchuk's former teammates and Jets alumni including Randy Carlyle\, Serge Savard\, Dave Babych\, Paul MacLean\, Laurie Boschman\, Lucien DeBlois\, Jim Kyte\, Tim Watters\, Brian Mullen\, Ray Neufeld\, Jimmy Mann\, Randy Gilhen and Jordy Douglas. Honourary Dale Hawerchuk Way (Graham Avenue between Carlton Street and Donald Street)\, and Hargrave Street (north of St. Mary Avenue and south of Portage Avenue) will be closed from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. to accommodate the ceremony.
