Compost giveaway is limited to 100 L per vehicle or five 19-litre/5 gallon pails per vehicle. \nLocations\n\n1901 Brady Road (next to Brady 4R Winnipeg Depot)\nKilcona Dog Park\, west parking lot off McIvor Avenue (line up on Norris Road\, south McIvor Avenue)\nSummit Road closed landfill site\, Summit Road north of Optimist Park\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow to Get Your Compost Safely\nResidents must: \n\nBring your own containers\, shovel\, and gloves – prepare to get a little dirty\nPack and carry your own compost. Our employees will not be available to assist customers\nOnly one vehicle will be allowed per compost pile at a time. DESCRIPTION:Share This Story\n\nGiveaway Weekends\nMay 9 and 10\, 2026. \nGiveaway Weekends are a great way to reduce waste\, and keep items out of the landfill\, by giving reusable\, unwanted items a new home. \nWhat to do\n\nPlace unwanted\, reusable household items at the curb on your front street\nLabel each item with a ‘free' sticker or sign.\nKeep any items safely stored away that you don't want to give away\nRemove leftover items from the curb by dusk on Sunday\n\nWhat to give\n\nBooks\, CDs\, DVDs\nFurniture\, electronics\, artwork\, mirrors\nSports equipment\, toys\nYard and gardening tools and equipment (e.g.\, lawn mowers\, snow throwers\, rakes\, shovels)\nSmall appliances\, kitchen gadgets\, dishes\, cutlery\, pots and pans\nConstruction material (e.g.\, nails\, paint\, wood)\nClothing\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat not to give\n\nItems harbouring bed bugs (e.g.\, mattresses\, furniture\, bedding)\nToilets (with a flush volume of 13 litres or more)\nVisit the Consumer Product Safety Bureau to find out about items that aren't safe to give away (e.g.\, baby walkers\, lawn darts)\n\nGiveaway pick up rules and tips\n\nTake only the items at the curb marked “FREE”\nCheck all items closely for bed bugs before you put them in your vehicle or bring them into your home\nRespect other people's property – don't walk or drive on people's lawns or gardens\nGiveaway items should still be in good condition\nDon't discard any items on another person's lawn\nObey the traffic laws at all times (e.g.\, don't block traffic\, park illegally or block people's driveways with your vehicle)\nWatch out for children\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat to do with leftover items\n\nUse the Recyclepedia to learn where leftover items could go\nBring accepted items to a 4R Winnipeg Depot\nConsider donating unwanted items to:\nCanadian Diabetes Association (clothing only)\nGoodwill Industries\nOyate Tipi Cumini Yape\nAdult & Teen Challenge\nSalvation Army\nThrift Stores (during business hours)\nDonation Centres\nWarehouse located at 25 Furniture Park Road (off Gateway)\nPick up of large items (i.e. furniture) by calling 1-800-PLS-GIVE (1-800-757-4483)\nOffer them to members of local community gifting groups\nYou can find many of these groups on Facebook by searching for ‘Buy Nothing’ and choosing your local area’s group\nLarge items (e.g.\, furniture\, mattresses) left at the curb will not be picked up with regular garbage collection. These items are eligible for our large item pick up service.\nPlease take accepted items such as metal and untreated wood to any 4R Winnipeg Depot.
