Girls in Aviation Day 2018 – Winnipeg

We are looking forward to our 4th annual Girls in Aviation Day. Designed for girls aged 8-17 we have another jam-packed morning with interactive activities, static displays, and career exhibits. The girls will meet a pilot, a flight attendant, an air traffic controller, an aircraft maintenance engineer, an airport operations manager, an aerospace engineer, a fire fighter, an aeromedical attendant, and new this year, Canadian Forces Hercules crew, at each of our Career Stations set up throughout the Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada. At each station the girls will have a hands-on activity and learn about their specific career. At noon the girls will have a chance to explore all of the aircraft on disiplay outside the hangar doors. The sky’s the limit so dream big!

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Is there a registration fee?
A. No. Thanks to our generous sponsors this is a free event
Q. Can I register my daughter for the program even though she isn’t 8 years old yet?
A. No. Please wait until your child reaches the appropriate age. Based on feedback from the career stations over the past three years children younger than 8 years old have a hard time engaging in the activities and become a distraction to the group during the activities. This is an annual event and there will be an opportunity for your child to attend in the future.
Q. I want to register my daughter but I also have younger children. Can we still attend?
A. Yes. However, you will be asked to view another area of the museum while the Career Stations portion of the program is on. Young children become a distraction to the girls during the sessions and it isn’t fair for the participants wanting to engage in the activity.
Q. Does a parent or chaperone have to attend?
A. A parent, chaperone or sibling over the age of 12 must accompany 8-11 year olds. Children under 8 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. All parents and guardians are invited to participate. Parents who are engaged in their children’s interests are more likely to support their children’s future path.
Q. I’m over 17 but I’m interested in attending this event. Can I register?
A. Yes, you can register as a participant or as a volunteer. There is lots to learn and many great role models to meet at this great event! If you would like to volunteer please register at this link:
Q. I’m a Girl Guide Leader, can I register my group?
A. Yes. Girl Guide Leaders can be the chaperone for their group. Leaders can register up to 10 participants per registration. Additional participants can be registered on a second registration form.
Q. Will there be food and beverages?
A. Coffee, tea, juice, water and a selection of baked goods and snacks will be provided during the break. There is no other food provider on site.

Q. I have a son who loves aviation, can he register?

A. Boys can participate however the programming is deigned to expose girls to the many career opportunities available to them in aviation and aerospace. These fields are largely employed by men and we want to introduce the girls to successful female role models in aviation and aerospace.

Q. What time do doors open?
A. Registration opens at 9:00 am and the Program begins at 10:00 am. Guests who arrive early will be able to explore the Career Exhibits and aircraft on Static Display.
Q. Is there parking at the venue?
A. Yes, there is limited parking at the musuem. Overflow parking is available at Standard Aero nearby. Please obey all parking signs.
Q. I don’t want photos of my child shared on social media, will there be photos taken at the event?
A. Photos will be taken at the event to share with our sponsors and used on our chapter website and social media sites as well as with our parent organization Women in Aviation, International. Photo release waivers are available to download off our website. If you do not wish for your child to be photographed please ensure she doesn’t pose for the photographer.
