Join us for a FREE walking tour back into the earliest days of Winnipeg’s Exchange District.

In the mid-1800s, the Scottish-Metis Ross family owned the long, thin stretch of land from the Red River to McPhillips Street, between William Ave and Pacific Ave. The Ross Family operated the first post office in Red River on this land, and were prominent members of the early Winnipeg business community.

Jemima, the matriarch of the family, negotiated the gradual sale of the land, including land that City Hall sits on today. Many of the streets around the Exchange District are now named for members of the Ross family.
