The Opening Of The Art of Faye HeavyShield!

HeavyShield, who is a Blackfoot (Blood) woman from the Kainai territory, is known for her installations, drawings, and writing imbued with memory, ancestral and personal, celebration of kinship, and stories of home and place.

Ghost Signs Walking Tour

Ghost signs are hand-painted, outdoor ads that have been preserved on sides of buildings. They are also known as fading ads or brick ads and were prevalent from the 1890s through to the 1960s. As outdoor advertising mediums evolved, ghost signs became a less popular way of advertising products and services and were replaced by billboards and vinyl banners.

Astronomy Day 2023 – Daytime

Venue: Chapters (Polo Festival), 695 Empress Street

Celebrate International Astronomy Day with the local astronomy club! The Winnipeg Centre of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada will host a telescope display and SAFE sun viewing session from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Chapters/Indigo near Polo Park in Winnipeg. Come out and learn about how you can do astronomy from your own backyard, with binoculars, telescopes, cameras, or your unaided eye.

There will also be an evening observing session at Assiniboine Park, near the Duck Pond, from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. (weather permitting).

Both events are FREE to everyone.

Celebrate Astronomy Day by seeing the Universe with your own eyes!

The Winnipeg Centre of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada will have telescopes set up near the duck pond for a free viewing session from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 29, 2023. Come and see the Moon, planets, and other celestial sights up close!

The event requires clear skies, and will be postponed if the sky is totally overcast. Check back here after 4 p.m. on event day for details.
